One of Australia’s most glamorous caravan parks – or holiday parks, as they’re now often more appropriately called – has picked up a major gong at the 2011 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards.
The BIG4 North Star Holiday Resort
, located in Hastings Point on NSW’s picturesque Tweed Coast, was awarded the title of top caravan and tourist park in Australia at the prestigious annual awards, which acknowledge tourism businesses that have demonstrated outstanding achievement and success throughout the year.
Surrounded by four World Heritage National Parks and described as “the ultimate family destination”, the North Star Resort is a far cry from your more humble traditional caravan park.
The five-star resort has a full range of accommodation options, from traditional powered sites with free Austar connection to luxury villas costing as much as $450 a night in peak season.
Set up to keep the kids (and adults) entertained for days on end, the park features a million dollar water slide playground, huge indoor play centre, three heated tropical pools with water slides, a tennis court, restaurant and day spa.
Other novel attractions include a marine environment museum and pampered pooch package, while a caravan park training school is also located on-site.
While the up-market attractions, top-shelf accommodation and landscaped tropical surrounds helped the resort win the top award, BIG4 North Star owner, Ian Bedel, paid tribute to his staff.
“The BIG4 North Star team (is) very committed and passionate about providing the best holiday experience and for their hard work to be recognised this way is just fantastic,” he said.
“We’ve spent 30 years building a world class property with a team of superstars so it’s great to be recognised as an industry leader.”
The BIG4 holiday park group scored a hat-trick of awards on the night when the BIG4 Middleton Beach Holiday Park in Albany, WA took home the silver award in the same category, while BIG4 Beacon Resort in Queenscliff, Victoria was awarded the bronze.
The NSW Caravan, Camping, RV and Holiday Supershow also picked up the top award for best festival or event at the 2011 Australian Tourism Awards.
