Big winners at Sydney Supershow

A family of four have picked up the keys to one of the best prizes ever given away at an Australian RV show

Denley Richards was announced the major prize winner in the Passport Competition on the final day of this year's NSW Caravan, Camping, RV and Holiday Supershow, but he had to wait a month before picking up the $82,000 'ultimate camping package' from outdoor equipment retailer Outdoors and Beyond.

The major prize in the Supershow's Passport Competition included a Isuzu Dmax crew cab ute, Cavalier Rough Road Deluxe camper trailer, two Hobie pedal-powered kayaks, a stand up paddle board and $20,000 worth of camping equipment, clothing and accessories.

The Richards family including Denley, wife Selina and children Mitchell and Tara (pictured) have been regular visitors to the Supershow and after trying their luck in the Passport Competition over the last six years, finally struck gold.

"We look forward to the Supershow each year and often visit two or three times during the nine days," Selina said. "Winning this prize has been a dream come true as we have always wanted to travel in a camper trailer but did not have an appropriate vehicle or all of the necessary gear.

"Now we don’t have to worry and can just pack up and leave whenever we want."

Other lucky Supershow Passport winners included Sharon O’Keffe, who won an Evakool 60 litre portable fridge/freezer complete with solar panel kit, and John and Shirley Smith who scored an Anaconda camping package.

There were around 25,000 entries in the Passport Competition, which required showgoers to stamp a passport at six locations located around the show.

This year's NSW Caravan, Camping, RV and Holiday Supershow was one of the most popular in its 43 year history. The first Sunday of the Supershow recorded the largest one day crowd ever with 17,474 visitors passing through the gates at Rosehill Racecourse.

Crowd numbers totalled 80,022 over the nine day show from April 30-May 8.

With many exhibitors reporting solid sales at the show, Caravan and Camping Industry Association of NSW chief, Barry Baillie, attributed the Supershow's success to the significant growth that the industry has experienced over the past 15 years.

"The caravan and camping industry is the fastest growing domestic tourism sector in Australia," Baillie said. "Increased interest from younger demographics was evident at this year's Supershow. This is due to holiday goers, particularly young families, recognising the benefits and value of caravan and camping holidays."
