It’s a big call, but NSW’s Cub Campers is spruiking its latest Explorer model as “the best value Australian-made off-road camper trailer” on the market.
Priced from $18,990 drive-away, the new Explorer camper saves buyers thousands of dollars by deleting some of the standard features fitted to similar but more expensive Cub models such as independent coil suspension, 12V water pump, an integrated cooker and two gas bottles.
Like other Cub hard-floor models, the Explorer is compact and light, measuring 4.4m long when open and 1.7m wide, and boasting a 740kg Tare, 1200kg ATM and 90kg ball weight.
It features a new beige coloured, Australian-made canvas tent and awning, and comes standard with 15in wheels and Goodyear Wrangler tyres, Trigg off-road hitch, Al-Ko leaf spring suspension, alloy tool box, stone guard, and a fridge slide to suit a 47 litre fridge.
The 2.1m x 1.35m double bed comes with a foam mattress, while a new stainless steel kitchen features a portable two burner cooker and sink with a hand pump hooked up to an 80 litre water tank.
Also standard is a 4kg gas bottle, alloy roof rack, and a Redarc battery pack with solar input and internal LED strip light.
Both the chassis and painted body are made from Australian steel, with a galvanized chassis costing an extra $620. Other options include an Evakool 47 litre fridge ($1249), stainless steel side shelf ($285), and mud flaps ($185).
Cub Campers' general manager Shane Fagan said the new Explorer is designed for week-ends away and off-road trips.
“It’s a budge camper trailer but don’t be fooled by the word budget…. It’s got plenty of features but it’s at the right price,” he said.
“Cub has studied the market closely in recent times and we’ve pinpointed the exact features that budget buyers are looking for.”
The Explorer is built at Cub’s Sydney factory and the canvas, suspension and chassis are covered by five year warranties.
The new model should be on display at Cub’s six nationwide retail outlets within weeks.
