•7 Nov 2022The Electric Brake Controller is a vital piece of equipment for those who are towing a trailer fitted with electric brakes.
What are electric brakes? If you’re towing more than 750kg, trailer brakes are mandatory. And while some lighter trailers make do with basic braking equipment, as weights increase and exceed 2000kg, electrically actuated braking systems become the norm. In such cases an electric brake controller is required to allow the trailer brakes to function.
The challenge facing owners of many modern vehicles is that there are limited options in terms of cabin and dash real estate to fit a traditional one-piece electric brake controller.
Enter the Ultimate Tow Electric Brake Controller from braking experts, Bendix.
The Bendix Ultimate Tow Electric Brake Controller is an easy-to-install, compact remote-head-unit-style electronic brake controller. It is offered as a kit and features an OEM-style control dial with a built-in LED for easy trailer brake system fine tuning.

According to Bendix’s Product Manager, Ian Campbell, the full-control 12-volt Bendix Ultimate Tow Electric Brake Controller is suited for all towing applications.
“The Bendix Ultimate Tow Electric Brake Controller includes all the parts required to install it to most tow vehicles, as well as the remote head unit and compact aluminium housing main control module.
“The main control module can be mounted at any angle and out of sight, up to 1.28m away from the dash-mounted head unit. This makes installation neater and easier.
“The kit also includes a protection blocking diode necessary for fitment to vehicles with electronic driver aids, such as the Ford Ranger. These are not included in many competing brake controller kits,” Campbell explained.
Campbell added the Bendix Ultimate Tow Electric Brake Controller also boasts an open circuit or trailer disconnection indicator for total towing peace of mind.

“Locating the head unit is also simple. It can be installed by simply drilling a hole in one of the blank switch panels in your tow vehicle,” Campbell said.
The Bendix Ultimate Tow Electric Brake Controller remote head controller not only allows drivers to set up proportional trailer braking quickly and easily, but also offers all-important brake override at a touch of a button.
The unit is also compatible with the AL-KO ESC stability control system, should your rig be so equipped.
The Bendix Ultimate Tow Electric Brake Controller was designed, engineered, and tested in Australia for local driving and towing conditions. It can be fitted by an experienced auto electrician or mechanic in around an hour, depending on the vehicle involved.
The Bendix Ultimate Tow Electric Brake Controller has a three-year warranty, and costs $259 (not including fitting).
