A decision to introduce an American-built 16ft 4in caravan with no permanent beds has backfired on Queensland-based Talvor.
After releasing the compact 480A slide-out model in early-2014 with two lounge areas but no permanent double bed, as is common in most Aussie-built vans, Talvor has altered the layout to include a fixed, east-west double bed in lieu of a club lounge that could be converted into a bed.
Talvor CEO Luke Trouchet said the company had responded to demands from grey nomads for a fixed bed layout.
"Our customers are generally over 50 years old, and often long term travellers, they don’t want to make up their bed every night while travelling," Trouchet said.
To increase buyer interest, Talvor has further slashed the price of its entry-level caravan. After originally going on sale for $55,990 tow-away, the price was cut by 20 per cent or $10,000, to $45,990. It now retails for $42,990 tow-away, making it possibly Australia's cheapest slide-out caravan.
The Talvor 480A remains a three-berth caravan, with the three-seat ‘ultra-leather’ sofa in the 1.72m long slide-out section able to be converted to a single bed.
Other features within the compact 4.87m internal layout include a full ensuite with washing machine, kitchen with 186 litre fridge, gas cooktop and microwave, LED lighting, multi-media system with LED TV/DVD and reverse-cycle air-conditioner.
An electric awning, Winegard antenna, 60 watt solar panel, 147 litre fresh water tank, and external shower are also supplied as standard.
The 480A can be viewed at Talvor’s Australian Premier Dealership located at 698 Nudgee Road, Northgate, Brisbane.
