Now there’s another good reason to work for Australia’s No.1 caravan manufacturer, with a new salt relaxation and therapy room recently installed at Jayco’s five-year-old mega-factory in Victoria.
The indoor salt room (the photo is of a similar-looking European version), features layers of salt on the walls and floors and, apart from providing a relaxing beachy break, is said to offer various health benefits including soothing respiratory and skin conditions.
The small salt 'cave' adds to the state-of-the-art health and fitness perks available to the 850 or so employees at Jayco’s Dandenong South headquarters, which also include a simulated high-altitude training gym.
Jayco employees are encouraged to use the salt room before or after work, with sessions of up 30 minutes recommended that might otherwise cost around $40 at a commercial facility.
Located on a massive 45 acre site, Jayco is considered the biggest employer, and one of the best, in Melbourne’s sprawling Dandenong region. Its production floor staff, some of which have worked for the company 30 years or more, enjoy a relatively modern and safe working environment.
Other benefits include a week off mid-year, along with an extended break during the annual four-week shutdown over the Christmas/New Year period. Jayco founder Gerry Ryan also splashes out on a big budget, carnival-style family fun day each year for employees.
A group of eight, hard-working Jayco production staff also counted themselves extra lucky in late-2012, when as part of a weekly lotto syndicate they divided up a $15 million windfall.
