There are bound to be plenty of ‘show specials’ at this year’s Victorian Caravan, Camping & Touring Supershow (February 20-27), with many dealers keen to drop the advertised price or add some accessories to seal the deal.
But we doubt any could come close to the sort of discount being offered by Victorian dealer, Ian Grant’s Caravans, who has reduced the price of a spectacular, one-off Franklin Limitless caravan by $50,000, or 40 per cent less than it was originally advertised.
Featuring a massive 25ft (7.62m) long body, the fibreglass-bodied van was first displayed on the Kratzmann stand at the Queensland Caravan, Camping & Touring Supershow in June 2015 with a 'show special' price of $129,990.
Hefty six-figure price tag aside, it turned plenty of heads for its striking looks and impressive interior appointments, which include two big internal TVs, a slide-out east-west walk-around queen bed, sumptuous leather-lined club lounge and spacious kitchen with 224 litre fridge.
Despite now being almost two year’s old, the van remains cutting edge in many ways, with its fully-insulated ‘monocoque’ fibreglass construction complemented by a Finscan digital management system, satellite TV, Fusion audio system, washing machine and ducted gas heating as well as air-conditioning. Despite its luxury grand tourer appearance, the unique van is also fitted with some heavy-duty off-road gear including Cruisemaster XT independent suspension and a DO45 hitch.
It’s believed the Franklin was built by Campbellfield, Victoria-based custom caravan builder and fibreglass specialist, Future System but with no buyers taking the bait, it’s now made its way down south with the price slashed to $79,990.
“This is a rare opportunity to be the proud owner of a unique, one-of-a-kind Franklin caravan – the Limitless - the most luxurious caravan we have ever seen,” Ian Grant’s Caravans says in the online ad. The Traralgon, Victoria-based, multi-franchise dealer also says the “first to see it will buy it” and at that price, it could be hard to resist for a cashed-up bargain hunter looking for something a bit special.
However, prospective buyers should note the LandCruiser-unfriendly Tare weight of 3200kg and 3897kg ATM, meaning you’ll probably need a big American truck or similar to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime discount.
