Bailey slider breaks new ground

New Bailey slide-out to be the first Aussie van displayed at a European show
Further details have emerged about the first Australian-built Bailey caravan with a slide-out, prior to its official launch at the Penrith Caravan, Camping & Holiday Expo from September 9-11.
Boasting an interior length of 21ft 7in (6.59m) and travel length of 26ft 8in (8.12m), the first Rangefinder Comet caravan currently being built at Bailey's Campbellfield, Victoria factory will feature a slide-out for the east-west queen sized bed that will protrude 600mm from the rear offside wall when extended.
The extra space will allow the fitment of a large, full-height side cabinet that runs along the wall facing the bed, incorporating a TV and washing machine.
The floorplan will also include a full width rear ensuite with separate shower and toilet, two-part kitchen and a spacious club lounge up front.
Bailey Australia is yet to reveal specific information about weights but claims the first Comet slide-out will be “more than 800kg lighter than competitors”. Pricing is expected to be around the $80,000 mark.

Like other locally-built Bailey vans, it will be manufactured using Bailey’s patented Alu-Tech construction system and subject to ‘destruction testing’ at the Australian Automotive Research Centre in Victoria.

According to Bailey it’s the first time a Lippert flush mount, ‘cassette’ style slide has been used outside of prototypes in Europe. The slide together with additional alloy framing to support the structure will add around 50kg to overall weight.
In another ‘first’, the Bailey Rangefinder Comet will also lay claim to being the first Aussie built caravan exhibited at a major European show, when it's shipped over for display at the 2016 NEC Motorhome & Caravan Show in Birmingham, UK in October.
