Brisbane-based Bruder X has released a more compact and affordable alternative to its radical, hardcore off-road EXP-6 ‘expedition trailer’.
Like the military-style EXP-6 introduced two years ago, the smaller EXP-4 trailer is designed and constructed to cope with extreme weather and off-road conditions, incorporating a fully-sealed 125 x 75mm painted chassis, epoxy bonded composite body construction using panels up to 60mm thick, and bespoke multi-link independent air suspension delivering more than 300mm of wheel travel and 850mm ground clearance.
Featuring a similar-size (4027mm x 1963mm) and pumped-up teardrop camper body design to the NSW-built BRS Sherpa, the all-black EXP-4 has a base Tare of 850kg and ATM of 1600kg.
However, unlike the Sherpa the EXP-4 can accommodate a family with young kids inside with the option of a 1.8m bunk bed at the base of the 2150mm x 1800mm inside sleeping area.
The all-composite external kitchen is accessed via a top-hinged rear door, and features a benchtop with stainless steel basin and swivel tap, 60 litre portable fridge, two burner gas cooker and storage cabinets, with space to accommodate a portable BBQ.
Also standard is an external shower, 100 litre water tank and 12V water pump, 4.5kg gas bottle, 105Ah battery system, and two external lockers that are big enough to store a portable toilet.
Ventilated disc brakes, an underbody mounted spare wheel and two rear recovery points are also standard, with the option to fit a Warn recovery winch, a roof-top tent and various style awnings.
Two side doors allow access to the compact interior, which also includes opening windows with mesh and blinds, USB charging points, LED lighting, and internal storage options.
Like the bigger EXP-6, the EXP-4 is being marketed to overseas markets including the US and Europe as well as Australia.
“Not only is the EXP-4 the most capable off-road expedition trailer available, but also the quickest and easiest to camp with,” the company claims in its five minute Youtube promotional video.
Pricing for the Brisbane-built EXP-4 starts at $59,950 for Australian buyers, but there are 31 options available to lift the final cost much higher, including a queen innerspring mattress, diesel air and hot water heating, air-conditioner, manual or electric awnings, solar panels and lithium battery upgrades.
