Victoria’s Avan is progressively updating both its Avan and Golf ranges for 2018 with new upmarket interiors, an improved finish and new materials and colour schemes. The first of the new Avan updates were rolled out at Melbourne Leisurefest, with new high-gloss cabinetry fitted to a number of the Avan caravan and pop-top models on display.
White painted timber is now been used for the core cabinet carcasses, allowing the new flat front doors to extend right up to the benchtops and in some cases below the lower cabinet line for visual effect.
These are complemented by new recessed ‘kicker’ panels at floor level and the effect is enhanced by concealed LED strip lighting.
Brightly coloured acrylic kitchen splashbacks are now featured to further update the interior of Avan interiors, while the furniture has been redesigned to minimise intrusions by wires and pipes, resulting in a tidier, higher-quality appearance.
In other upgrades, 2018 Avans get clear-door glass shower screens, while USB charging points for personal music devices are now located in bedhead nooks.
Avan’s sister Golf range of caravans and pop-tops is to get its own distinct interior upgrade in 2018, but at Leisurefest only the expanded range of on-road Golf Maxxi pop-top and fixed roof models was displayed.
A notable omission from Leisurefest was the Germany Knaus caravan range that Avan has nurtured for several years. In a model shake up, the uber-stylish Knaus Eurostar has been dropped from the Australian line-up for 2018, following buyer resistances to its relatively small kitchen and bathroom. However, van Baardwyk said that two new Knaus models with British layouts featuring separate shower and toilet ensuites and larger galley areas, will make their Australian debut at the Melbourne Caravan Show in February. Unlike its key market rival New Age, Avan will bring in two staged price rises during 2018 that will reflect its model upgrades, but van Baardwyck said the rises will be more than offset by the additional features built into 2018 models.
