Pakenham, Victoria's Avan hopes to settle the argument about who is Australia’s Number 2 RV manufacturer with a factory expansion next year designed to lift local production of Avan and
Golf campers, caravans and motorhomes to well above 2000 units.
The question of who ranks second to Jayco in the Australian RV industry has always been clouded with mystery, as it depends on what models you include and how much you rely on accurate intra-industry reporting.
Avan, New Age, Concept Caravans, Supreme and perhaps Coromal have all been considered to be in the top five, but their relative pecking order remains a fuzzy figure. Avan joint managing director Scott van Baardwyk told Caravancampingsales that a new 4000 square metre factory will be added to the vast Avan compound in Pakenham during 2018. It will be built on current vacant land owned by Avan that extends behind the existing manufacturing plant to the Koo Wee Rup road.
The new plant will allow some sub-assembly operations to be moved out of the existing main plant, freeing further area for camper, pop-top, caravan and motorhome production.
