Australia's first extreme expedition caravan coming

Hardcore off-road manufacturer Bruder is set to release its biggest, best-equipped and most expensive 'expedition trailer' to date.

The five-year old Brisbane-based builder has released a few teaser images and details online of its new EXP-8 tandem-axle model, which presents more in the design of a conventional, full-size, off-road caravan than its two other hybrid campers, the EXP-6 and EXP-4.

Bruder says the new EXP-8 will be its "largest and most spectacular design yet", and offer cashed-up buyers a "vast interior, spectacular self-sufficient power capability and true go-anywhere long-range capability".

Like other Bruder models, it will come equipped for off-road battle with monster 37inch tyres, a Warn recovery winch and unique multi-link independent air suspension with eight vertically mounted shock absorbers and up to 300mm wheel travel.

Despite its considerable bulk it promises to ride nicely behind the tow vehicle, with stability features including a "50:50 load split and auto calibration to suit different tow vehicles".

Designed for extended remote-area travel, Bruder says the EXP-8 will be "completely self sufficient" with an impressive 1000Ah lithium battery system and 1600W rooftop solar panels, along with a reverse osmosis and water purification system.

Its closed cell, 800gsm quad-weave composite body construction is designed to handle extreme weather conditions (+60c to -25c temperatures), not to mention bone-jarring terrain with Bruder claiming the EXP-8 has been certified engineered to withstand more than five times its maximum (ATM) weight.

Entry is via a double-door system that provides "instant access to the plush interior, or direct access to the bathroom/wet room". Judging by the computer renderings, the EXP-8's interior layout will also feature cooking facilities, a dining/lounge area and a built-in step for the north-south queen bed at the rear.

Buyers won't be slumming it in the bush, with the choice of "leather, suede and premium woven textiles" for interior finishes, along with a Garmin touchpad to control all the electricals.

"(The) all new EXP-8 takes much-loved characteristics of the EXP-6, re-imagined for a truly four-season 21st century global exploration platform," Bruder said.

Full specifications and pricing are yet to be announced, but with the latest Bruder EXP-6 MK2 just shy of $200,000, the full height, tandem-axle EXP-8 is expected to be among the most expensive caravans available down under when it goes on sale.
