If you reckon big-buck, off-grid electrical systems with lithium battery banks, huge solar panel arrays and multi-appliance running inverters are only for large caravans and motorhomes, think again...
Queensland camper trailer manufacturer Condamine turned plenty of heads at this year's Queensland Caravan Supershow with the display of what it claims is Australia's "first electric hybrid camper".
Custom built for a family that already owns a Condamine camper, the all-electric Hybrid Bunk model was loaded up with around $30,000 worth of off-grid power equipment, including a 15.36kWh lithium battery set-up comprising three 25.6V 200Ah batteries, 1500W rooftop solar panels, a 3000W DC-DC charger and 3000W battery charger.
Combined with a 5000kVa inverter (with peak load of 9000W), the Condamine family camper can run all its on-board appliances, either simultaneously or separately, for long periods off the grid including the under-bunk reverse cycle air-conditioner, instant electric hot water unit, two-hob induction cooker, 130 litre compressor fridge, electric BBQ, toaster, kettle and ice machine.
Most of the Victron electrical components are tucked away in a box located in the camper's large offside storage locker, alongside a compressor for the Cruisemaster XT airbag suspension also fitted to the single axle pop-top.
Aside from the cutting-edge technology, the Condamine Hybrid Bunk camper is a pretty simple, albeit very solidly built family camper, with a pop-top roof that raises electrically to reveal a cosy interior with raised queen-size parents' bed and two large kids' bunks. There's also an above-ground ensuite tent with a composting toilet, that sets up along the offside wall and is accessible from inside.
Other features include a large 270 degree awning, 250 litres' water storage, external 'chef's kitchen' and huge lockable cavities on both sides for storing all your gear. The 6.5m long (overall), 1.95m wide camper has a Tare weight of 1950kg and 2800kg ATM, for a payload of around 850kg.
The Condamine Camper Hybrid Bunk model would normally start at around $75-80,000, but potential buyers should bank on a price closer to $110,000 if they want something similar to the feature-packed show camper.
Based in Chambers Flat, Queensland, Condamine Campers first hit the RV scene around six years ago, and has plans to release a smaller camper model later this year under the Kelly Campers brand which it now owns.
