Australia’s safest motorhome?

New Sunliner Habitat features ‘quick evacuation’ system for extra security when free camping
Melbourne motorhome specialist Sunliner will launch a truck-based, multi-terrain motorhome at the Victorian Caravan Supershow on February 22-27, featuring a new ‘quick evacuation’ system for added security when remote camping.
Designed so that the motorhome can be packed down and driven away without having to go outside, the new Sunliner Habitat is fitted with power-assisted stabilizers, entry steps and awning as well as 360 degree outside security lights, that are all controlled from inside the van.
Other security features include windows positioned to make it difficult to see in from outside, step-through cabin, UHF radio, a Dometic security door and lockable water filters and generator fuel fillers.
“Travellers (and their families) are becoming increasingly sensitive to issues of security especially when free camping or away from caravan parks,” said Sunliner's NSW dealer Australian Motor Homes.

“The Habitat will be the first of the Sunliner range to focus on providing peace of mind to travellers with a host of security minded features. We believe the Habitat will be the safest motorhome on the market.”

Unlike Sunliner’s other medium to large-sized motorhomes, the Habitat is designed to tackle dirt roads and water crossings up to 600mm depth; based on the rugged, high clearance Iveco Daily 70C cab-chassis with turbo-diesel engine and auto transmission, 210 litre long-range fuel tank and optional diff-lock.
Also adding to its rough-road credentials are a custom-built bull bar and rear bar, all terrain tyres and checker plate protection.
It’s also been designed for ‘off the grid’ camping, with 400 litres fresh water and 100 litre grey water storage and two water filters, 300W solar panels and an on-board 2.9kW generator allowing owners to be self-sufficient for extended periods.
“The Habitat has been designed to meet the needs of the serious RV traveller who requires a long range-touring vehicle that provides the ability to free camp for extended periods of time and access campsites on gazetted unsealed roads,” the NSW dealer said.
Inside, a luxurious interior fit-out includes rear, leather lounge/dinette with power-assisted drop-down double bed, well-equipped kitchen and rear ensuite with separate shower and toilet.
Requiring a truck licence, the four-berth Habitat also comes with an air-conditioner, diesel heater, reversing camera and external shower, while storage areas extend to a 2.25m high external locker big enough to hold surf boards or other long items.
Tare weight is 4900kg with a payload of 1600kg. It’s priced at $204,990 and is currently on display at Sunliner's Sunshine Coast Queensland and Lake Macquarie NSW dealerships.
