Fast-growing RV importer Austrack Campers displayed its new range-topping 16ft hybrid caravan at the 2022 NSW Caravan Camping Holiday Supershow at Sydney's Rosehill Gardens.
Priced at $77,990, the new Gibb 16 hybrid off-road caravan is the most expensive model in Austrack's hybrid caravan and camper trailer range, but comes stacked with standard features including both a diesel heater and rooftop air conditioner, plus a big 300Ah lithium battery system with 2000W Redarc inverter, Manager30 management system and 400W rooftop solar panels, for extended off-the-grid camping.
Featuring a fixed roof and no slide-outs, the single axle Gibb 16 will be available in both couple and family layouts, with the two-berth display model featuring a north-south double bed, twin-person dinette, separate shower and toilet and a kitchenette with stainless sink and mixer tap and a twin gas burner cooktop; both with glass lids.
There's also cooking outside on an external slide-out kitchen, with another gas cooktop and sink, with refrigeration taken care of by an internal 190 litre Thetford upright fridge/freezer, and an external 80 litre Arctic slide-out fridge.
Ample storage includes a large tunnel boot next to some external slide-out drawers and a pantry locker, and a front toolbox with separate compartments for the two gas bottles and jerry cans. Austrack says there are 25 seperate storage areas inside the two-berth Gibb 16, including a half robe and cupboards located along the rear wall.
The Gibb 16 'van is set up for some rough road travel with a McHitch off-road coupling, independent trailing arm coil suspension with twin shocks per wheel, and 16in alloy wheels with all-terrain tyres, along with side scrub bars and checker plate protection for the underslung 240 litre fresh water and 80 litre grey water tanks.
Also part of the Gibb 16 package is an external shower, roll-out awning, Bluetooth radio with external speakers, HDTV and aerial, two rear mounted spare tyres, external bug repellant lights and an external 'bar' with built-in chopping board.
The smooth-sided Gibb 16 display model had a plated Tare of 2340kg and an ATM of 3000kg, delivering a decent 660kg payload.
