AusRV targets families in Sydney

New Queensland manufacturer expands lightweight composite caravan range for NSW Supershow debut
Brisbane-based importer/manufacturer MDC is adding five new models to it locally-built AusRV full height caravan range, with two making their public debut at the NSW Caravan & Camping Show at Rosehill Racecourse from April 25-30.
A new 17ft ‘Wollemi’ single-axle model will expand AusRV’s current off-road ‘couples’ van range, but the big news for many travellers will be the arrival of AusRV’s new 19ft and 22ft family bunk vans, both based on existing Finke and Byfield models respectively.
All AusRV caravans will be available in All-Terrain (AT) or Extreme Terrain (XT) spec, but AusRV will shortly add a third Highway Touring (HT) spec to its Wollemi, which fitted with conventional leaf springing instead of trailing arm independent suspension will sell for a price-leading $58,990 ex-Brisbane.
When completed, it will expand the total AusRV caravan range to seven, allowing for the AT and XT variations of all models.
A 17ft Wollemi AT priced at $64,990 and a range-topping 22ft Byfield family bunk van ($92,990) were among the display models featured on the MDC stand at the Sydney Supershow.
The two front-entry-door AusRV family vans follow a fairly traditional layout, with the customer’s choice of two or three stacked single beds in their left hand rear corner.
A separate shower and toilet ensuite opposite the bunks is included in both models, however the Finke 19-03 has a transverse queen-size bed in its nose, while the 22ft Byfield 22-03 makes use of its extra length to offer a conventional north-south island queen bed. A top-loading washing machine will be standard on the 22ft family van.
An interesting thing about the new AusRV models is that pricing of ‘couples’ or ‘family’ vans is the same for each van length and spec. So, a 22ft Byfield will cost $83,990 as an All-Terrain van and a Byfield Extreme Terrain will cost $92,990, regardless of its configuration as twin singles, queen or family bunk van.
The same applies to the pricing of the smaller 19ft Finke, which will cost $77,990 as an ‘AT’ and $87,990 as an ‘XT’’.
All AusRVs feature 32mm thick infused fibreglass, timberless flooring and 29mm thick full composite fibreglass wall and roof panels sourced from a composite panels specialist in Melbourne.
This construction enables AusRV models to weigh several hundred kilograms less than equivalent-length models from most other manufacturers, because the rigidity of their monocoque structures allows them to save on weighty chassis steel.

The new AusRV family models should weigh around the same as the all-terrain regular van variants, which means a Tare of 2300kg and 2900kg ATM.

All new AusRVs are being sold with an impressive five-year structural and three-year electrical appliance warranty, matching the best currently offered in the industry.
Although housed in the same new 5000sq.m. factory in Coopers Plains, Brisbane, adjacent to its previous Australian HQ, AusRV caravan manufacture remains separate to MDC’s importation of Chinese-built campers and hybrids, which will continue to be commissioned and certified to Australian compliance in Brisbane.
