More than four decades after the first Leyland Brothers road trip hit the small screen, sole surviving Leyland brother Mal is back yet again “travelling all over the countryside”.
But this time it’s with daughter Carmen, who featured as a youngster in many of the episodes of the pioneering Ask the Leyland Brothers; one of Australia’s most popular TV shows in the 1970s and ‘80s.
“I’m addicted to travel basically, and the idea of filming is what I’ve done most of my life so it seems logical,” the 75-year old TV legend told the A Current Affair program.

Travelling in Mal’s trusy Fiat Ducato campervan, the pair plans to drivel from Adelaide to the Flinders Ranges before heading up to Darwin, in the hope of attracting a new TV deal for their modern take on 'Ask the Leyland Brothers’.
Like the original show, Mal said viewers will be able to request destinations to feature on the show, although via email rather than ‘snail mail’. Mal and Carmen will also communicate with fans via social media.

“All you have to do is let us know and we’ll go there, the same technique as we did before,” Mal said.
It's the latest adventure for the restless septuagenarian, who was a special guest at the 2018 Big Red Bash and did some 'On the Road Again' travel segments for morning variety show Studio 10 earlier this year. Mal also went on regular road trips from his Tasmanian home base with wife Laraine before she passed away in late-2018.
