Apollo has further cemented Campbellfield’s claim to be the ‘home’ of Australian caravans by opening its own caravan and motorhome dealership at 1876-1878 Sydney Road, opposite the soon-to-close Ford factory.
The move to open a factory dealership for Australian-built Winnebago and European-built Adrian caravans and motorhomes is a significant one for Apollo, replacing its previous Melbourne dealership Jefferson RV World, with much of its launch stock coming from the former Braeside dealer’s yard.
The new dealership is located in the former Universal Caravans showroom in a particularly fertile part of Campbellfield for the RV industry, with Melbourne’s major Avan dealership – the (also new) Avan Super Centre – in the same high visibility block. The move is part of a major national retail expansion for Apollo, which already has successful retail supercentres in Northgate, Brisbane and Taren Point, Sydney.
The new Melbourne and vast warehouse display area behind it is capable of holding the entire Winnebago range sold by Apollo, including the latest Australian-made Burke and Mossman models released this year, plus a range of used caravans and motorhomes and unsold US-built Talvor and Winnebago Minnie caravans. Established in 1985, Apollo is one of the world’s largest privately owned rental vehicle operators with branches across Australia, New Zealand, the USA and Canada.
Apollo CEO Luke Trouchet said the move to establish a retail division in Melbourne was a logical progression for the RV group.
“Campbellfield is right in the heart of the caravan and RV market with over 80 per cent of Australian manufacturing taking place there,” he said.
“Naturally we wanted to be right in the mix. We’re in with the big guys now and we’re keen to make our mark.”
Heading up the new dealership is sales manager Rob Pennesse, who was previously there when it was in Universal’s hands.
