Apocalypse-ready RAM camper unleashed

Big American truck-based expedition vehicle aimed at cashed-up hardcore glamping adventurers

American off-road motorhome builder Storyteller Overland has unleashed its biggest and baddest off-road expedition truck to date.

Based on a 6.7-litre diesel-engined RAM 5500 dual-cab pick-up chassis, the new half-million dollars-plus, 27ft long GXV Hilt is designed to "take you farther into the wild than you've ever been with greater confidence and creature comforts than you've ever experienced".

Designed for tackling tough tracks and for 'glamping' well off the beaten track, the GXV Hilt comes with an impressive on-board battery system including 1325W roof-top solar panels feeding a 16.8 kWh lithium-ion power pack with two 3000W inverters.

The motorhome body is constructed from a carbon fibre and kevlar-reinforced, vacuum-infused resin composite material, with closed-cell acoustic and thermal insulation, and mounted on a proprietary 'zero torsion' subframe.

High-tech off-road modifications include an active hydraulic smart suspension system, 360-degree full spectrum trail lights, a rear rack and roof storage system, heavy-duty electric winch, and bead-lock wheels with extra large 41-inch tyres.

Along with a 197 litre fuel tank, there's a 454 litre fresh water tank and heated 151 litre grey water tank, while the big tough-truck camper seats four and accommodates them on two queen size beds.

Other features include a rooftop air conditioner, water purification system, electric entry steps and an awning, with upmarket fittings and natural materials used inside for the club lounge-style dinette, combination shower-toilet, and the kitchen, which includes a sink, convection oven, microwave, air fryer, induction cooktop and large fridge-freezer.

The GXV Hilt off-road motorhome is now available for order in the USA, priced from US$446,322.

"The Hilt adventure truck is the flagship of Storyteller’s pioneering new GXV line of turnkey expedition rigs developed in partnership with its wholly owned subsidiary Global Xpedition Vehicles, LLC," the Birmingham, Alabama based company said.
