Another head-banging Hobby
Ground-thumping black campervan displayed at world’s biggest caravan showBack in 2014 German RV giant Hobby stunned crowds at the annual Dusseldorf caravan show with its sinister-looking, heavy-metal inspired version of one of its slick white fibreglass caravans.
Now the European manufacturer has whipped the covers off another satantic stealth-mobile, displaying its latest Wacken Vantana campervan at this year’s Dusseldorf show.
Based on Hobby’s Fiat-based Vantana campervan, which in itself is a stand-out with its unique 90 litre fridge mounted in the exact space where the kitchen overhead lockers usually go, the concept campervan received a full exterior and interior makeover courtesy of apprentices in Hobby’s cabinetry division and famous graffiti artist Rene Turrek.
Adding to the eye-catching, sprayed-painted artwork on the exterior is a shiny chrome bulbar with three spotlights, black alloy wheels and chunky off-road tyres.
Also guaranteed to appeal to long-haired, head-banging grey nomads is the tricked-up interior, which features a big-screen TV, game console and top-end sound system using components from German audio company Teufel and Marshall amps.
The apprentices have added plenty of bespoke timber touches, including the hand-crafted E-electric guitar, and labour-intensive inlays including a skull recessed into the wooden tabletop.
Like the one-off, all-black caravan, the Wacken Vantana was built specially for the popular Wacken Open Air heavy metal festival, and after the Dusseldorf show will tour schools and other events to encourage young people to take up careers in the RV industry.
