Another full metal jacket caravan arrives

New Chinese-built Fantasy Cubby blends auto-type panels with a Euro-style design and eye-catching paintwork

Harvok RV isn't the only local importer offering a caravan with car-like construction elements, with fellow Australian-Chinese brand Fantasy Caravan releasing a new range of compact caravans featuring auto-style, pressed-metal exterior panels.

Fantasy says that unlike traditional caravans built with composite panels or aluminium sheet cladding, its new four-model Cubby compact caravan range "features advanced metal stamping technology for a seamless, high-precision finish. This innovative design delivers superior corrosion resistance, lightweight performance, and exceptional structural strength".

The Cubby's body is constructed with front and rear pressed steel panels, with aluminium sandwich panels with an XPS foam core used for the sides. The curved panoramic front window features double glazed, automotive grade glass, while a foam core panel is also used for the floor.

To make its luxury coach-like shape stand out further, buyers can choose from 12 colours for the auto-paint lower body sections, including pink, gold, light or dark blue, light or dark green, red, orange, yellow, grey and white.

Fantasy displayed two examples of the new Cubby at the recent 2025 Geelong Outdoor Living & Caravan Expo in Victoria; both sharply priced at $43,990 for the Cubby 13.5 and $48,990 for the bigger Cubby 15.5.

Both single-axle vans get a kitchenette, combination shower and toilet, lounge-dinette seating and up to four berths, with either twin bunks or a fixed double bed and a club lounge that converts to more bedding.

Chinese-built Cubby vans get a distinctive Euro-style fit out

Both offer a modern Euro-style interior fit-out, with standard features including a 120L freshwater tank and 40L grey water tank, a 200Ah lithium battery system with Projecta BMS and up to 500W rooftop solar, a rooftop air conditioner, gas-electric hot water, 20L microwave, 118L fridge freezer, 24in Smart TV, a wireless rear view camera and a manual roll-out awning.

A Tare weight of 1450kg-1580kg and an ATM of 1800-1900kg make both vans towable by mid-size SUVs, while the touring-spec underpinnings include a 4in chassis, torsion axle suspension, 50mm ball coupling and 10in electric brakes. The Cubby is also available in 13ft and 17ft body lengths, with prices starting from $42,990.

The new 'pressed metal' Cubby range joins the fibreglass sandwich-panelled Mystic and Nano models in Fantasy's small caravan line-up. The Pakenham, Victoria-based importer also continues to offer a competitively-priced range of semi off-road and off-road hybrid and full height caravans, as well as its new range of Australian-built full size off-road caravans that are marketed under the Horizon moniker.
