Floating caravans – or trailerable house boats – are nothing new, with all sorts of weird and wonderful examples of boat/caravan hybrids bobbing up over the years.
Many have drifted out to sea, never to be seen again, but hopefully that’s not the fate of a fancy new caraboat, called Departure One, from the fledgling German Caravanboat brand.

Breaking cover at the recently held Caravan Salon in Dusseldorf, the Departure One is described on Caravanboat’s website as “a caravan and motorised houseboat in one vehicle, offering multiple opportunities for use both ashore and on the water”.
Prospective buyers of the Departure One, which will retail for $58,000 Euros (around $94,000), are also being promised “high-quality workmanship… sleeping berths for four, an efficient kitchen, WC and shower as well as a covered terrace.

“The Departure One is self-sufficient and designed to host two people for up to two days of travelling without additional electrical power or water supplies.”
When towed on its tandem trailer, the Departure One is 9.0m long by 2.5m wide, with the floating caravan itself measuring 7.8m long and 2.5m high.
Production versions should weigh around 2.3 tonnes dry (with a 400kg payload), and they'll be built on an aluminium pontoon-like base with a ‘RexWall’ fibreglass body.

Entry to the vessel – whether camping or cruising -- is via a rear ladder, with the striking design highlighted by a large panoramic front window, with matching curved ladder leading to the roof-top sun deck.
The only details so far about the interior are via a single computer image, that shows a front bedroom, separate shower/toilet, and a rear living area with dinette and kitchen.
Some of the included features are a roll-out awning, fresh and grey water tanks, space heater, two-burner cooker, 90 litre fridge, solar panels, TV, and outside grille.

The plan is to offer a range of accessories, including an inflatable floating ‘deck’, while a 15-50hp outboard engine is expected to propel the Departure One along at up to 10 knots on the water,
The German company hopes to offer the Departure One in Europe as well as global markets.
