An RV could save your life

An RV is hard to beat if you and your loved ones need motivation to getting yourself fit and healthy

If low exercise and skipped meals has become your household norm, with high fat, sugar and salty foods filling the gaps, an RV could be more than just an escape vehicle, it could save your life!

We have a culture here in Australia loosely modelled after the American dream: the big house, the ever-new cars and a romantic notion of money being the answer to our hopes and dreams.

We work and we work and we short-cut our health with too much processed food and not enough exercise before we discover that money has little to do with happiness or harmony…

What has a bigger impact is our health and our connection to the world and the people around us.

Being happy in Australia in the year 2015 is easy when you have your health, but being healthy in this day and age isn’t always easy. We live in the land of plenty and too much rich living is killing more Aussies than poverty ever did!

It’s nearly impossible to be healthy when you’re surrounded by unhealthy choices, and bad health choices cluster around the typical Aussie home like termites to soft wood.

We eat too much processed food because we’re so busy working to pay for our even increasing consumption of ‘things’ we don’t actually need.

Toss in the ever-present ‘fear of everything’ perpetuated by the media and you start to see why Aussies are attempting to satisfy our urge for exploration and adventure via television instead of getting out there and experiencing things first hand.

Of course, life doesn’t have to be this way; we truly live in the lucky country. Nowhere else in the world has such an abundance of accessible space with so few people sharing it.

The great Australian adventure is right there for the taking for every single one of us and a trusty RV is exactly the vehicle to take you on that journey.

It’s amazing how quickly good health, happiness and harmony can become part of your daily landscape when you can escape from the craziness of everyday life for a quick (or extended) getaway.

Ask those who own a caravan, motorhome or even a tent and you’ll find pretty much universal agreement they’re a good thing. RVs bring family closer together (literally) and living away from home at your favourite camping spot delivers a slower pace of living that fosters conversations and encourages a more traditional approach to the preparation of food.

Do a quick search on Caravancampingsales and you’ll discover there’s an RV to suit every budget. From used and abused tent trailers to classic caravans for just a few thousand dollars to apartment-sized motorhomes in the hundreds of thousands, they all offer the same essential feature… freedom.

Freedom from the daily grind, freedom from expensive living, freedom from busy, busy lives and freedom from over-eating…

An RV isn’t just an escape vehicle by name: it’s an escape vehicle by nature. Motivational guru Anthony Robbins loves the quote ‘proximity is power’. We surround ourselves with creature comforts like big screen TVs and un-needed ‘snacks’ poured into a tummy that only just saw lunch.

Heading down this route it doesn’t take long before we feel unfulfilled, lethargic, unhappy…

Give me a grey afternoon and wet camp fire tinder and you’ll see a contented human being. As humans, we live for the challenge of lighting that fire and basking in the warmth we create for ourselves and (if we’re lucky) the people we hold dear.

Give me a set of tired legs and a mountain to climb with the only reward being the fresh air and the view from the top and you shall see the widest smile a person can grin. Yes, this is what living is all about.

So before you slouch in the couch and turn the key to your big-screen TV, join the growing revolution to a happier, healthier lifestyle and take a test drive in an RV instead.

Buy one between friends, hire one; beg, steal or borrow one (OK, maybe don’t go as far as stealing one!)

The holidays are upon us, so get out there and explore our sunburned country and make sure you take someone with you. This way, when you’ve been home for a while and your ‘life’ starts to overrun the memories, you can remind each other how amazing it all was and you’ll know it’s time to start planning your next trip…
