All Terrain Camper Trailers

By Caravan World staff

All Terrain camper trailers are designed and built by husband and wife team Trish and Glenn Wilson who have years of 4WD camping experience, and their dedicated staff who know what it takes to make camping in the wild nearly as comfortable as staying at home.

All Terrain campers are built tough, from full checkerplate steel with canopies of the finest quality 12oz Australian made canvas and the highest standard insect-proof screens, to withstand the harsh and diverse conditions of the Australian landscape.

The full offroad trailer has a one-piece chassis and drawbar for added strength, a solid axle, mechanical brakes, Trigg 3000kg coupling and nine leaf eye-to-eye super rebound suspension.

Having travelled with their daughters in some of the most remote and inaccessible parts of Australia from the Simpson Desert to Cape York, Trish and Glenn also understand that small extras can make the difference between a hard-work holiday and a comfortable relaxing break in beautiful surrounds. All Terrain campers take just minutes to set up so that you can get on with having the fun.

Each trailer is constructed from Australian steel and features solid, full-length welds and full-length steel panels on top of the trailer beneath the queen-sized sleeping area.

The kitchen unit swings out from the trailer door and contains a purpose-built timber cabinet with drawers, storage areas, three-burner gas cooker, tap and food preparation area. A metal support leg locks into the outer end of the unit, above that is a steel holder for the washbasin and plate drying rack.

When travelling, the water and two petrol jerrycans slot into a holder on the outside edge of the trailer behind the left-hand wheel with the gas cylinder in a similar position on the offside. At the campsite they slot in under the kitchen area. A 75 litre under-trailer rotomoulded water tank is also available.

The underbed storage area is best described as cavernous and can easily accept enough storage boxes, small fridge units and sleeping gear for a typical family. Much of the sleeping gear, camp chairs and tables carried during transit can also be folded flat and stowed on top of the queen sized bed, which has its own dustproof cover, underneath the tent section.

Setting up camp on a steep hillside can sometime cause problems but the design of the unit overcomes such difficulties, with easy levelling by winding out the rear stabilisers and winding down the front nosewheel. Using the stabilisers it’s also possible to raise the trailer wheel for tyre changing without the need for a jack.

The heavy-duty vinyl cover unzips all round and is then stowed before pulling on the canvas which swings up and out in the style of a pram hood. Four roof bows are adjusted internally to expand out the maximum dimensions of the tent and are clamped with T-locks. Then the base is pegged out, poles are clipped in to support the awning and guy ropes are attached to hold the poles secure. Side curtains are optional.

All windows have flyscreens and zip-down canvas covers both inside and out; if it rains in the middle of the night the covers can be zipped into place without your having to get wet running about on the outside of the tent.

The queen-sized double bed is accessed by a step or, in the case of the higher offroad models, a short ladder. Once in bed, there are storage pockets sewn into the side of the tent for personal items and clothes can be hung from brass eyelets in coat hanger positions already included in the canvas from the roof section. A zip-open access is also provided for passing in a power lead to the interior.

All canvas is 12oz Australian made, and the 840gsm heavy duty vinyl floor extends some 15cm up the sides to prevent water ingress. The quality of the manufacturing is evident in the double stitched seams that overlap to prevent water seepage.

Other options include queen size innerspring mattress; internal power access point; laundry bag; adjustable mirror pack; fold-down shelf with chopping board and 12V wiring.

Each trailer canopy comes complete with a full awning with gable, pre-zipped for any additional screen or canvas walls that you might like to add.

Summing up

The on-road camper trailer weighs in under 600 kg and doesn’t require an additional braking system. The heavier offroad models come with over-run disc brakes as standard plus a choice of wheels and tyres to suit the towing vehicle.

They represents excellent value for serious campers and weekenders alike, especially with the high quality construction and practical design.

From lone campers to retired couples or growing families, All Terrain Camper Trailers has a trailer and canopy solution to fit all camping needs.
