You can now buy a hard-walled Kimberley Kamper for a five figure sum, with the Ballina, NSW premium off-road RV manufacturer releasing a new entry-level micro-camper called the Kube, priced from $68,525.
That's about how much Kimberley used to charge for its original hard-floor canvas-walled camper trailer before it was pulled from the market, and is almost half the current starting price of Kimberley's previous cheapest model, the Karavan Classic expandable pop-top.
It's more than four years since Kimberley first announced its intentions to introduce a new entry-level box camper, designed to compete with the likes of Australian Off Road's Sierra and Bruder’s EXP-4.
According to the Kimberley website, the new two-berth Kube is a "luxury off-road teardrop camper" and shares many of the design, construction and signature features of other Kimberley models, albeit on a smaller scale. The single axle trailer measures 5200mm long overall, 1800mm wide and 2100mm high.
Two Kube variants will be offered, with standard features on the Kube Classic including a single mould composite body shell with polyurethane stone protection and ArmaPET flooring made from 100% recycled plastic, together with a galvanised chassis, independent trailing arm suspension with manual filling airbags and 2.5in monotube shocks, hydraulic disc brakes, AL-KO off-road coupling, 16in steel wheels and all terrain tyres.
The entry-level Kube Classic off-road pod camper also gets a 120L fresh water tank with creek drawing system, a Kwik Awning, Webasto diesel hot water, a dual layer foam king mattress, powered fan hatch, and three large panoramic windows as standard.
For cooking there's a large slide-out stainless steel kitchen with sink and mixer tap, an 85L upright fridge and a two burner cooktop and grille hooked up to a 4.5kg gas bottle.
Off-grid power is provided by a 200Ah lithium battery system with 40A Intelligent battery charger, with water tank monitors and a 450 litre A-frame mounted UniPod for storage plus space for a jerry can.
Priced from $78,395, the more upmarket Kube EcoTrek model gets additional features like a 'revolutionary' turning drawbar extension, swingarm remote greasing kit, 17in alloy wheels, a Bedouin Awning extension, ensuite change room, external shower, plus extra storage and a bigger 300Ah lithium battery system.
There are also a long list of options available including top-spec airbag suspension, power assisted hydraulic disc brakes, a Cruisemaster or McHitch coupling, wireless reverse camera, an inline water filter, diesel space heater, lightweight rooftop air-conditioner, 2000W inverter and ultra-thin solar panels.
Tare weights are listed from 1110kg (Classic) and 1220kg (EcoTrek), with up to 840kg payload depending on the model.
Kimberley is promising quick set-up with easy entry on both sides and an optional power assisted awning.
The Kimberley Kube will be on public display for the first time at the 2024 NSW Caravan, Camping Holiday Supershow at the Rosehill Racecourse from April 16-21.
