Sydney's Avida is introducing a rugged and luxury-equipped, new off-road model to its campervan and motorhome line-up, priced from just over $220,000.
The first of a new 60th Anniversary model range, the Avida Explorer LX 4×4 campervan is a new high-specification model based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter AWD 419 MWB panel van, which is powered by a 140kW/450Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Standing out with a unique Blue Grey exterior finish and extruding driver's side 'pod' with window, the new 6.33m long, 4100kg GVM, Explorer LX 4x4 off-road model is designed for off-grid camping and comes standard with 400W MPPT roof-mounted solar panels, together with a Victron 3000VA MultiPlus inverter charger and two 200Ah lithium batteries.
There's the option to add an additional 200amp lithium battery and 400W solar blankets, for more off-grid power, while the Explorer LX also gets a total 170L fresh water and 100L grey water storage, which Avida says is best in class.
Set up for serious off-road adventures, exterior add-ons include a 50in LED driving light bar, rear working lights, full roof rack, a rear ladder, rear spare wheel carrier, all-terrain tyres, roll-out awning and custom full length side protection steps.
For increased bushability, buyers have the option to add extra driving lights, alloy wheels, an engine air intake snorkel, a front adventure bar, and an electric winch.
The 'gas free' Exploer LX camper also comes with a portable induction cooktop for both indoor and outdoor cooking, a rooftop air conditioner, combination diesel hot water and space heater, Smart TV, leather upholstery and 'Starlink ready' connections.
Internal height is 1.92m, while the couple-friendly floorplan incorporates an east-west double bed at the rear, a kitchenette with fold-up bench extension, sink, microwave, water filter and compressor fridge-freezer, and a combination shower/toilet with a window, that also doubles as a drying room for any wet adventure gear.
There's seating for up to four around the small dinette, which includes swivelling front driver and passenger seats, while storage options throughout the van include a lift-up bed with tie-down points, some kitchen cabinetry and storage pockets.
The Explorer LX 4×4 will be available from Avida dealers around Australia from early 2025, with a recommended retail price starting at $221,990 plus on road costs.
