World-first safety technology that delivers both anti-sway mitigation and anti-lock braking features for the first time on electric-braked trailer chassis, has won a major prize in the 2021 caravancampingsales Innovation Awards.
The AL-KO Tow Assist feature picks up the Best New Safety gong in the inaugural caravancampingsales Innovation Awards, which are designed to recognize and reward advancements in the areas of technology, design, quality and safety throughout the Australian RV industry.
“It’s been a long time coming but Australian caravan buyers can now order a caravan with a similar suite of potentially life-saving electronic safety features as on their tow vehicle,” caravancampingsales’ editor and Innovation Awards judge Chris Fincham said.
“With caravan-related accidents caused by trailer sway a regular occurrence on our roads, the advanced anti-sway mitigation and anti-lock braking features on AL-KO Tow Assist will bring added peace of mind as well as safety benefits for owners, particular those towing larger, heavier and more unstable caravans,” he said.
Fellow judge Michael Browning said the safety technology is an “important new towing aid at a time when many new caravanners are travelling”.
The AL-KO Tow Assist was a clear winner in the Best New Safety category, with all four judges voting it first among the six category contenders.
In second position was the Milenco Grand Aero Platinum towing mirrors, with the AL-KO lockable couplings taking third place according to the final tally of votes.
Other contenders in the Best New Safety category included the Hema HX-2 Navigator portable sat-nav unit, the Parksafe caravan light tester and the Narva Ultima MK2 driving lights.
Other trophy winners in the 2021 caravancampingsales Innovation Awards include the Geotrek Trek-XP (Best New RV), Boss RT1 (Best New Product/Accessory) and Safiery 48V (Best New Technology).
