AL-KO is joining the self-levelling airbag brigade with the launch of its latest Enduro X Air all-terrain suspension at the 2022 Victorian Caravan Supershow.
A step up from the coil-sprung Enduro X suspension launched in 2019, the new airbag version was fitted to a 'bare' hot dipped G&S chassis on the AL-KO stand and incorporated a range of premium components including airbags from Queensland specialist Airbag Man.
Designed for serious off-road travel, the new AL-KO Enduro X Air suspension also featured AL-KO dual in-line shock absorbers, forged bolt-on stubs, and it's tow and camber adjustable. It will be available with drum or disc brake options, and will also be compatible with AL-KO's Tow Assist safety technology.
Three airbag control levels will be available, with the basic 'standard' manual inflation incorporating a heavy-duty 12V compressor, pre-wired control panel, dual digital pressure gauge, and 11 litre aluminiujm air tank. More expensive 'wireless' remote control and 'auto levelling' options will also be available.
Other stand-out features include replaceable stub axles, maintenance free bushes, 140mm wheel travel and an automotive eCoat finish. Maximum GTM capacity is 2500kg (single axle) and 4100kg (tandem).
Owners of caravans with the standard Enduro X coil suspension will be able to upgrade to airbags with a retrofit version on the way. The company says it "will be releasing an Enduro X Air Bag upgrade kit which will include air bags, air lines and fitting and choice of controller options".
"Enduro X Air offers all the benefits of the next-generation performance and handling in unpredictable, off-road conditions of Enduro X with the addition of an airbag," the company says on the AL-KO website.
Also on display at the Melbourne Supershow was AL-KO's 'second generation' Cross Country semi off-road coil suspension, which AL-KO says is 26kg lighter (single axle) and 52kg lighter (tandem) than the previous version.
AL-KO, which also displayed its latest lockable coupling range, has become Australia’s principal non-Jayco RV component supplier after purchasing a number of chassis rivals in recent years, including former market leaders G&S and Preston Chassis.
