Iconic American travel trailer manufacturer Airstream has teamed up with some big brands over the years, from Porsche to Harley-Davidson, not to mention the odd fashion designer.
Now it's collaborated with the custodians of the work of one of America's most famous architects and created a new, very special model, called the Airstream Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian Limited Edition.
Unlike anything ever produced by this almost 95-year-old American RV brand, the new 28-foot travel trailer features Airstream’s iconic, rounded, riveted aluminum shell exterior and a stunning interior inspired by the work of architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
"Airstream’s handmade craftsmanship and Wright’s distinct and intrinsic touchstones manifest in convertible features, narrow passageways that open to expansive interior spaces, and a beautiful blend of interior and exterior," it explains on the Airstream website.
Among its many stand-out features is a first-of-its-kind convertible king-sized bed. The bed's design was inspired by mid-century travel trailers and features single beds or double bench seating that converts to a king-sized bed at the push of a button.
Mimicking a central light feature in a dining room in one of Wright's creations, a Custom Slatted Ceiling Fixture also runs the length of the trailer, framing skylights, concealing venting, and creating dynamic light and shadow throughout the interior.
The Limited Edition 'van lets in more natural interior light than any other Airstream model too, thanks to an overall increase in the number of windows to 29, including two glass skylights.
The tandem-axle van has an ATM of 3449kg, and pricing starts at $US184,900 ($A285,000).
"Only 200 units of this Limited Edition Airstream will be produced over the next two years, and Airstream’s nation-wide dealer network is taking orders now."
