A world-first self-inflating camper that’s been developed and tested in Australia is in the running for a prestigious design award.
Selected by an international jury of design experts, the unique blow-up camper is now in the running for a coveted Australian Good Design Award, to be announced in June.
The judges said the Air Opus offered “genuine innovation at a surprisingly affordable price” and was “incredibly spacious with well thought out, easy to use and functional spaces”.
They also praised the air beams that inflate the camper in just two minutes.
“The convenience of pushing a button to erect the camper with air is simply genius and makes camping accessible to everyone,” the jury said.
Good Design Australia CEO and Chair of the Good Design Awards program, Dr Brandon Gien, said the awards attracted entries from all corners of the world.
“Good design is about making our lives better, safer and happier. It extends to everything around us.”
The Air Opus converts from a compact trailer into a spacious six-berth camper in less than two minutes at the press of a button, with air beam technology replacing traditional poles.
Opus Campers Australia boss Malcolm Hill said the Good Design Selection was a credit to the Australian and British design teams who had created the camper.
“We are proud to be included in a field which includes such global design leaders as Tesla, Audi and Bombardier Recreational Products,” he said.
Due to go on sale shortly, the Air Opus joins other eye-catching RVs like the Melbourne-built Bolwell Edge in being recognised locally for its design attributes. Click here for more about the Good Design awards.
