Adventure-ready pop-top previews electric campervan
Kia unveils rugged EV9 ‘ADVNTR’ electric tourer and PV5 WKNDR MPV pop-top at SEMAKia has pulled the covers off a pair of rugged, off-road-ready concept vehicles at the SEMA show in the US, headlined by a heavy-duty version of its EV9 large SUV dubbed the ‘ADVENTR’.
Intended as an all-terrain take on the road-focused EV9, the 2024 Kia EV9 ADVENTR concept retains three rows of seating but gains a mighty 3.0-inch suspension lift, all-terrain wheels and tyres, a custom roof rack and unique bumpers in the name of clearance and off-road capability.
It also sports yellow light bars across the roof platform and on the front fascia to enhance its more rugged persona.
Debuting alongside the ADVENTR was the 2024 Kia PV5 WKNDR MPV concept – modern-day, fully electric answer to the iconic Mitsubishi Delica 4x4.
Showcasing the potential versatility of Kia’s upcoming line of purpose-built vehicles, the WKNDR rides on an off-road ready wheel and tyre package, is fitted with a pop-top roof and sports a wickedly futuristic design with a “first of its kind” storage solution.
Kia says the van’s ‘Gear Head’ storage feature provides an off-board sheltered storage space for gear when the vehicle is stationary and can even be transformed into a mobile pantry.
The interior is just as wild, with fold-down seating in the rear, a front passenger seat that swivels 180-degrees and a steering wheel that can be propped up out of the way, to aid cabin space when parked up.
Solar panels are mounted to the roof make it ‘truly self-sufficient’ while an on-board air compressor makes adjusting – and re-inflating – tyre pressures, or inflating an air mattress, easy on the go.
