Right-hand drive conversion specialist Performax International has announced availability in Australia of the latest Toyota Tundra V8.
The 2014 update of the brawny American pick-up, which is capable of towing four tonnes along with almost a tonne in the tray thanks to a 7.2 tonne GCM, features a new-look interior plus more safety, comfort and convenience features.
The Queenslander importer recently completed all compliance engineering on the Tundra, allowing it to be registered in every state and territory.
Externally, the updated Tundra features a revised front grille and side styling on the pick-up tray and new 20-inch alloy wheels, while the interior has been substantially upgraded with a new dash, instruments, steering wheel and centre console. ??
There’s also new leather upholstery, and the infotainment system now is able to convert smartphone text messages and emails to voice.
Toyota has re-tuned the Tundra’s 284kW/543Nm 5.7-litre V8 petrol engine for a smoother throttle response and reduced noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), but there’s no change to the six-speed automatic transmission or on-demand four-wheel drive system.
Electronic safety equipment has been boosted with a reversing camera now fitted as standard while Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) are available as options.
The four-door Tundra ute is available in two variants, Platinum and a 1794 Edition, priced from $118,990 at current exchange rates (plus on-road charges).
The vehicles come standard with a tow pack, with tow mirrors and running boards also available as options.
The 2014 Toyota Tundra joins other heavy-duty American tow tugs in Performax’s range, including the 2014 Dodge Ram and Chevrolet Silverado pick ups, which can both tow up to five tonnes. ??Performax says the latest Ford F-250 – another five-tonne tow tug -- will be available later this year.
Performax International has dealers in Queensland, NSW and South Australia. For further details visit the website.
