$14 powered caravan site wins annual award

Avoid high commercial park fees with these top-rated, cheap-as-chips 'farm stay' options for caravanners

A $14 a night powered caravan site in Coober Pedy is one of dozens of winners in the 2025 Hipcamp Awards for the highest-rated Australian campsites listed on the popular private-property campsite booking platform.

Located on the outskirts of the popular South Australian Outback mining town, Coober Pedy Views has nine sites available starting from $10, with big-rig sites available for $14. Power is available on-site but there's no water or other amenities so RVers need to be self-sufficient in order to enjoy the sprawling red desert views from their camp chairs.

"In 2019 I was sitting in my alfresco area feeling that the beauty offered in front of my property should be shared to people I thought might appreciate a different aspect to Coober. Since that time I have probably had 600+ guests enjoy what Coober Pedy Views has to offer," host Karen explains on the listing.

Another budget overnighter getting recognition in the Hipcamp Awards 2025: Best Caravan Spots in Australia category is Rodborough Vale in Majorca, Victoria, which offers secluded campsites for $24 on the sprawling 600 acres working sheep property described as a combination of creek flats, native bushland and rocky volcanic outcrops.

Altogether there are 14 different places named in the 2025 Best Caravan Spots list, with the winners located in all states and territories except Tasmania.

"In highlighting the best Hipcamps in Australia, we took a bird’s-eye view to determine which Hipcamps are providing consistently stellar experiences. Competition was extremely fierce, and we are confident that these are among the very best sites in the world," it says on the 2025 Hipcamps Awards page.
